Student Characteristics
- Course developed for first year nursing students in four year baccaluareate program
- Age range of students: Approximately 20 - 40 years old
- Required student knowledge/abilities necessary for unit participation: reading comprehension, ability to use stethoscope, abilitiy to communicate professionally, awareness of cultural differences in reference to communication
- Required pre-requisite courses: two biology and chemistry courses with two labs, two English courses, two psychology courses, a math course, and a sociology course
- Technology knowledge/skills necessary prior to unit participation: knowledge of how to use a computer, a computer microphone, and a computer webcam
Unit Objectives
- Lesson One:
After reviewing the assigned material within lesson one, students will:
1) Correctly recall the physical structures that makeup the respiratory system.
2) Correctly identify the purpose of the physical structures that makeup the respiratory system.
- Lesson Two:
After reviewing the assigned material within lesson two, students will:
1) Correctly identify the physiological function of the respiratory system.
- Lesson Three:
After reviewing the assigned material within lesson three, students will:
1) Correctly identify all the steps of performing a focus physical assessment of the respiratory system.

Suggestions/recommendations as to how to use the digital content:
- Online instruction only:
Permit student access to the webpage
Remain available via e-mail and discussion board to assist with questions/concerns
Support student community, interaction, and involvement via discussion boards
- Blended instruction:
Use lessons with supplementary webpages for independent learning. Then, rather than having students answer end of lesson discussion board questions on-line, have them bring their answers to class for group discussion.

Use discussion board to promote student collaboration.
